For this landscape I knew I was going to use a photo from this summer when I went to St. Thomas, so I went through all my photos and selected my favorites. The picture I choose had a good mix of foliage and water. The water was my favorite aspect of this photo because I was able to be more lose with how I normally paint and the vibrate blue color was fun to mix and experiment with. The sky was the same because I was able to use a ombre turquoise blue. The hard part for me was the plants in the forefront of the photo that were behind the wall because they weren't close enough to warrant exact details, but they still needed closer detail than most of the greenery. The wall at first i thought would be fun because I would have to paint with more texture than I was use to, but it turned out to be more of a challenge than I thought because of the individual stone also included in the wall. This painting was one of my more difficult when it came to mixing colors to make the depth realistic, which just took a lot of experimentation on my part and a lot of times I would mix paints on the canvas as I went. Tess and I did are landscapes at around the same time, and we experienced some of the same troubles, so I know I learned a lot from seeing Tess bounce back from those problems.
