I made this gum ball piece for the color pencil magazine challenge, and I have lots of mixed feelings about it. This piece wasn't very hard to make it was just more tedious. Doing the gum balls in the glass felt never ending, and I had to be very cautious on what colors go by each other. It was also annoying that I then had to cover up some of the work with white for the glass reflection but it was necessary. I also took the easy way out and did not show all the detail on the metal plate. I choose to not do the detail because I didn't want the focus of the gum ball machine as a whole. Later I want to go back and smooth out the background a little because it is a little streaky looking.
Now onto the parts of the piece that didn't cause me trouble. I really love the bottom of the piece, which is where I started. I love the gum balls at the bottom, since there was so few of them I was able to focus more on the individual reflections. Also the gum ball coming out of the machine is the best because you can see the detail in the glass covering over it. Overall, even though their were some small challenges this piece was a simple one to end out the year. (please ignore the fact there is no in progress photos I did this piece at home and totally forgot)
